i have 7 AMPEX 700 ATR rtr

Grand pa worked for Ampex and retired after 25 years. He collected and horded any Ampex item he could get his hands on . Now I have it all 1900 sq ft building stacked to the ceiling with all Ampex. Including 2 brand new still in the box.


Sorry only one now one sold. The 700 ATR also has a feature that can also cause frustration to new users and also those who can not seem to get sound out of one side. Far right bottom next to the master record knob is the output.

IF THIS KNOB IS NOT TURNED INTO THE 3 OCLOCK POSITION. YOU WILL NOT GET ONE CHANNEL ON PLAYBACK OR OTHERWISE!!! THIS 2 STAGE KNOB THE OUTSIDE KNOB YOU WILL FEEL A CLICK WHEN IT ACTIVATES.YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO RECORD BOTH CHANNELS AND THE VU METERS WILL DISPLAY.THIS KNOB IS FOR USE FOR USE WHEN MAKING ADJUSTMENTS DURING SERVICE OR REPAIR.

I HAVE ALL THE DATA ON ALL THE AMPEX PRODUCTS AND MANUALS.THE MANUALS ARE JUST VAGUE. now I TAKE PIECE BY PIECE CLEAN TEST DIAGNOSE, REPAIR, RETEST CLEAN AGAIN TO AS CLOSE TO FACTORY, AND SELL.

I was appointed to handle Ampex spares for the UK back in 1996 and still stock one the largest parts there are world wide.
I was informed from good authority that the ATR 700 is based on a high quality Teac Recorder
(The name escapes me at the moment)
Ampex added some very professional touches to the original Teac hence the Ampex ATR 700
