The AG 440 ( a,b,c) was a design by committee. In those days at Ampex many ideas were carried out by a team assigned to the job and reviewed by members of an executive design group. The Ampex list would be the place to post your query but only Jay Mac Knight is still around from those days . Others have unfortunately passed on.
