In 1981, I arrived in NYC, with a dream of starting my own record label.

Having recorded Art Blakey in Sweden, from whence I had come to the US,I reconnected with Art in NYC and he invited me to a recording session at the famous CBS studios. That session was produced by Teo Mercero and recorded by Don Puluse.

Don was a thorough gentleman and a very kind hearted man. He took the time to answer all the questions of this nobody. Some days later, when I called him, to ask if I could bring over some tapes I had made, to listen over speakers, he was most obliging. I have never forgotten that king gesture!

It was he who told me that a certain type of Ronsonol lighter fluid was the best there was, to clean tape heads!

At that time I knew not that Don had recorded one of my favorite Dyan albums: Self Portrait.
