Ampex MM1100

I have had my 1100 since 1992. No longer in use since going digital, and the cost of tape so high now. But it was a great sounding machine. Sitting collecting dust.

The first 2" transport I worked with and on was an Ampex helical scan 2" video machine.

Following that, while working at Columbia Recording Studio in Nashville, I encountered the same deck, minus the rotary head and vacuum tape system. It was known as and Ampex MM1000 16 track machine. Later came the Ampex 1100 being a 24 track machine and then the Ampex 1200. I recall that Tony Dean was the local Ampex Technician. He and I spent many hours resolving issues with these machines with him frequently calling Redwood City for engineering information. The bottom line today, they still are very capable of pulling 2" tape.
